Grey’s Anatomy Review: Who Is He (And What Is He to You)? (Season 13 Episode 16)

Grey’s Anatomy Season 13 Episode 16, “Who Is He (And What Is He to You),” is packed full of emotional drama between April and Jackson.

Jackson is treating April like she doesn’t matter to him at all, and he’s been doing it for quite some time. Granted, he does end up getting better and being friendly to her, but what does that matter when the rest of the time you’re a major jerk?

Your answer: it doesn’t. It doesn’t matter that after the surgery Jackson finally decides it’s time to start liking April again just in time to hook up while they’re in another state.

The only reason I’m even remotely okay with the hookup is that the way he looked at April in the operating room reminds me of how their relationship used to be. I miss the young, crazy in love couple that they used to be. I know that we’ll never have that again, but a guy can dream.

April is friends with Catherine and Jackson doesn’t like it *insert fake crying voice*. The thing is, April is a grown woman who can decide who she does and does not want to engage with. April respects Catherine because she did exactly what April is doing right now.

April didn’t grow up with money, everything that she has right now she had to fight for from the very beginning. The same goes for Catherine. Catherine didn’t have it easy when she was a child or growing up. She didn’t have a wealthy family to help her get her places in life like Jackson had when he was growing up.

Maybe now after Jackson finally realizes why Catherine sent April, he’ll stop resenting his mother and stop giving April crap for being her friend. Keeping your work life and personal life separate is something that Jackson needs to work on.

Don’t get me wrong, I feel sorry for Jackson on the dad situation, I do, but I can’t excuse the rest of his actions because of that. I’ll forgive most actions while at the hospital, but everything before isn’t something that came from him meeting his father.

Growing up without a father is something that I can relate to seeing as I have never met my birth father either. All of the emotions Jackson is feeling is rightfully so. That man just walked out of his life and never came back, he’s allowed to hurt and feel those emotions.

I don’t know what I’d be feeling if I came face to face with my biological father who walked out of my life. Honestly, I’d probably do exactly what Jackson does. I’d sit there, speechless, and wait until it was time to leave.

I love that Jackson decides to take April’s advice and see his father again. Leaving without saying what he wants to say is something he’d surely regret later on. Plus, he’d have absolutely no closure.

Hopefully, all of this can repair the relationship between him + April and Catherine + him. I want to see the happy, full of life Jackson that we used to see on our screens.

Other Thoughts:

  1. Single mothers are strong as hell and are not someone to be messed with.
  2. I hope that this is a start in the right direction of April and Jackson maybe looking into a relationship again.
