Starz is trying to murder us all by dropping the opening credits sequence for American Gods. If I wasn’t already hyped for April 30th to hurry up and come, I would be now. The trailer is all neon lights and smoke, while looking at religious and American iconography with some mixture of technology and drugs. They then pull away and reveal that all of the images are part of a single large totem. If you know anything about the book, you can make connections with almost all the images shown. It is a fun mystery of how they will pull all of these elements into the show.
Bryan Fuller and Michael Green, the Co-Showrunners and Executive Producers say that it is “a totem of godly visions we didn’t know we needed to worship until they showed us the light.” That is exactly what the opening credits show us, a totem of the old and new things people worship.
According to Starz.com, American Gods will be about “Shadow Moon […] hired as Mr. Wednesday’s bodyguard and finds himself in a hidden world where a battle is brewing between the Old Gods and the New Gods.”
American Gods will premiere on Starz on April 30th
